So what's new with you? Apparently, the biggest news around this town of mine lately is that the new Taco Bell has reopened. Pretty exciting stuff, don't you agree? What? You don't think that's exciting? Perhaps if you knew the whole story you'd understand why it is exciting.
Several months ago, they tore down the old Taco Bell. There wasn't anything wrong with it as far as I could tell, but they tore it down anyway.
They then began building a new, bigger and better Taco Bell in that very same spot. I have no idea why they didn't just put an addition on the old building, but I suppose they must have had their reasons. So Taco Bell has been gone from my town for several months now while the new building was being built.
They finally finished the new building, and about a week and a half ago, they reopened for business there. At meal times now, ever since it has reopened, long lines have been forming around the building. The parking lot is full. Cars fill the lane that goes by the drive through window and are backed out into the street blocking traffic. It has been this way every day! I am quite puzzled by this. They aren't having any special deals or prices.
And, it is not like we don't have other restaurants in town, because we do. We have many restaurants of all types including others that serve tacos and other Mexican fare. Have the people living here missed Taco Bell food so much that they can't stay away from it now? It's like the whole town is jonesing for a taco fix.
So, like I said, apparently this is pretty big news in my town. Now, do you see why it is so exciting? No? Well, I don't either (I was kind of hoping one of you could explain it to me), but there's no denying it has been a very popular place to go recently. I suppose eventually all the excitement will die down, and then we'll go back to being excited about the weather when it changes.
* * * * *
So what else is new, you ask. (The Taco Bell news wasn't enough? You want more? You're really a glutton for punishment, aren't you.) One thing that is new is I have a new passenger riding along in my car keeping me company now.
Yes, I do realize you are jealous and you wish that Darth Vader was riding along as co-pilot in your vehicle instead of mine, but what can I say---only a few are lucky like me. Why is Darth Vader riding shotgun in my car? Well, allow me to explain.
My older son was home for the holidays for nearly three weeks. He flew here, leaving his car in Florida, of course. While he was here, he borrowed my car several times. One of the times he borrowed my car, he went to a white elephant gift exchange with some of his friends. He came home with Darth Vader as the gift he received from the exchange. So ever since the gift exchange, Darth has taken up residence in the front seat of my car and has been going everywhere with me. My son left today flying back to Florida without Darth. I'm not sure if it was intentional or not that he left Darth behind (I'm thinking, yes, it probably was intentional. haha!), but in any case, Darth remains, waiting patiently in my car for our next car trip, wherever that may be.
* * * * *
My third bit of news... (Seriously, you are still here? After reading the first two parts of this post, you are still here reading? Bless your heart. You are indeed a dedicated blog post reader or a good friend of mine, or maybe just a little touched in the head. ).
Anyway, my third bit of news is that I have a new laptop computer. I am finally getting rid of the giant dinosaur desktop that I've been using for years now. As my younger son so quaintly put it, "Welcome to the world where everyone else lives, Mom."
I'm going to be transferring all my photos and documents from my dinosaur desktop to an external hard drive that is the size of a deck of cards and holds 1 TB of information. No, in this case, TB doesn't stand for tuberculosis or tablespoon. TB stands for Terabyte which is the equivalent of 1,000 gigabytes of storage. Those who have been reading this blog a while know that I sometimes get carried away when I take pictures. Now I will have a place to store all those pictures without slowing down my computer. I also have a new printer to go with my cute little laptop and deck of cards external hard drive. The printer also makes copies and scans documents and sends faxes. I think it might even walk the dog, fix dinner, and wash the dishes if I can figure out the right buttons to push!
* * * * *
Now you're up-to-date on what's new with me here. So tell me, is there anything new with you? If there is, you can tell me about it in the comments below.
While you do that, I think Darth and I will put my car into warp speed and head on over to get in line at the Taco Bell.
(In case you couldn't tell, and I'm sure that you could tell, the only photo in this post which is mine is the one of Darth sitting in my car. The rest came from elsewhere and were just added for comedic effect.)

That is crazy about Taco Bell!
I love that your son left Darth behind to keep you company!
Congrats on the new computer ware. I am always so nervous with something new.
Have a good rest of the weekend.
How weird Daisy - this past summer, Taco Bell torn down a building on one corner and on the exact opposite corner across the street, built a whole new one.
Anyway, enjoyed reading about Darth Vader, you getting a new lap top (how fun!!) and all that storage for photos
I have so many photos I had to get an external drive to put them all on. It's truly ridiculous how many photos I have taken of the grandkids or while I'm out on a walk. I don't post near what I take in a day.
have a good weekend...
rather strange - maybe this is a key strategy to restaurant success -close down and then reopen the same as before
Boy, people must have really missed the Taco Bell! I suspect they will fill up ...(burp) soon.
I like Darth there, reminding you of your son, who may have left it to watch out for you!
I am quite possibly touched in the head, but I loved every bit of this...still chuckling.
This was good.
M. Lane, I'm a little nervous about using the new wares too, but I figure if I get stuck, my younger son can probably help me out. :D
I kind of like having Darth ride along with me too. I am fairly sure that my son left him behind on purpose to remind me of him. Happy Sunday to you!
Sandy, I know what you mean about the photos. It's so easy to take a lot of them with a digital camera. I have tons of them too! :) Have a good day.
David, it's funny, but one of my sons said the same thing--that it was a marketing strategy to increase their business somehow. Seems like it would be rather expensive to tear down and rebuild their building every time sales are down though!! Hope you enjoy your day. :-)
Martha, I am quite possibly touched in the head too. haha! :-D
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed my silliness in this post.
That does sound strange about Taco Bel.
Great news about your lap top. I think I need an external hard drive as, like you, I have loads of photos which I think slow our lap top down.
I think it was very thoughtful of your son to leave you a companion in the car for you.
Lynne, I'm excited about my new laptop. I'm looking forward to learning what all I can do with it. That silly Darth Vader will make me think of my son whenever I go someplace. haha! :D
Hi Daisy, In our little town they tore down the McDonald's last spring to put up a new and larger one. Guess the problem with both is that they were older.
I must be touched too cause I laughed laughts reading this entire post aloud to Grenville. yes, it seems that Darth is with you until he's relocated to FL via a road trip. Good luck on the new laptop - which one did you get? And I need to move my phjotos to an external drive as well cause I have been known to take way too many. First need to organize and delete a few!
Hi Beatrice! I'm glad this post gave you a few laughs. :D
My new laptop is a little Toshiba. We'll see how it works out for me.
I know what you mean about the pictures. I've been trying to get mine more organized too. :)
I L-ov-ed this post! Made me lol and smile throughout. I must tell you this: while in Arizona I NEVER go to TacoBell. When up in N.Idaho I can hardly wait each week to get to Sandpoint so I can wait in the drivethru line to get my 7 layer burrito. Really. Can't explain it...I guess us northerners get TacoBell fever. The DarthVader is so cute. Now I want one of those things too!! Congrats on your laptop. I think mine is considered old by pc standards, but I intend to use it til it bites the dust. Have a great week ahead DaisyGirl!! x
Thanks, Cassie! The Darth is actually a little backpack for a very young child. It has carrying straps on the back and a zippered pocket to be used to put things inside of it. Haha! I hope you have a great week too! :-)
You make me laugh!! Now I am hungry for tacos! You will love your laptop! Not much new here........we are getting snow again.........in west Texas!! blessings,Kathleen
Now I have been told that I am 'touched in the head'. What does that mean Daisy? Makes me feel kinda 'special' Anyway love the funny post. I don't know about that taco bell. special's yesterday - oh my you are late for that taco. I love taco bell too and now I may make a trip there for lunch.
New Taco Bell? WIN.
New laptop? WIN.
Darth Vader ride-along? WIN.
Sounds like a great week already, D. :)
w/v: UNWATIN
All your impatient townsfolk are unwatin to line up at the new Taco Bell.
Kathleen, you're getting more snow! I think you've gotten more this year than we have! Stay warm! I'm glad you found a laugh here. :-)
Becca, of course you're special! You're a friend of mine so you must be special. ;-) I'm glad you liked this post.
Cary, I HAVE had a great week already--of course, it is still early yet. ;)
Your word verification sentence made me laugh!
Taco Bell is not present here maybe years to come. So you missed the free tacos given yesterday haha. This is gonna be another exciting new year with new 1TB hdd and laptop.
Hahahahha! Too many funny bits in this post! :DD Thanks!
ROFL @ "I am finally getting rid of the giant dinosaur desktop that I've been using for years now. As my younger son so quaintly put it, "Welcome to the world where everyone else lives, Mom.""
Love that "looks like. feels like" photo! gotta love imagination, ya? :D
BTW, what's new with me is in my most recent blog post ;p
Have a good day or night, Daisy!
You can always "accidentally" mail that Darth Vader to me ;)
Bananaz, yes, I'm looking forward to using the new laptop and the extra hard drive. I am hoping it will speed things up for me. Sorry you don't have a Taco Bell there. I'd give you ours if I could. I am really not much of a fan of it. haha!
HA! Rad, I'm glad this post made you laugh. :D I hope you have a good day/night too. It's probably the opposite of what it is here, I suppose.
I'll be by your blog soon to see what's new with you too. :-)
And, you did pay another visit to my blog. Thanks! :D
Does the snow still fall? I wonder if you can make like an igloo out of the snow? Hehe I'm just very curious with snow. I mean... wow ice everywhere. white and what a sweet time to snuggle hehe
Rad, our snow has all melted here for now, but I'm sure we will have more sometime in the next couple of months.
We can't really make an igloo here. It would have to be cold for a really long time--many days in a row for that to really work. My kids have made snow forts before (just walls but no roof overhead) and other things sculpted out of snow.
They made a snow couch one time quite a while back-hahaha! Maybe if I can find that picture, I'll post it sometime.
As for the cold winter being a good time to snuggle--yes indeed it is! hahaha! That's one good thing about winter at least. :-)
Finally, somebody with some real SCOOP! I remember when the McDonald's burned down in our small community (the only restaurant!) Everybody in town lost 30 pounds! Enjoy your taco!
So funny! It must be that lure of the advertising on TV. AND they are very inexpensive! Love all the funny photos, too. There's a lot going on here, but nothing worth including in a comment! :)
Karen, HA! That's a drastic diet plan! :-)
Hi Becky! I'm glad you found a smile here. :-)
Darth Vader is a great traveling companion! Love your news updates.
Thanks, Diana. Darth is going to be keeping company on snowy roads today! :-)
There are more good things about winter apart from being a great time for snuggle, like, for example, being able to wear cool thick clothing which somehow looks cool sometimes :p instead of just one layer of t-shirt on a hot sunny day hehehe
Rad,yes, I suppose it is nice to be able to change things up and wear warmer clothes, although, to be quite honest, I wouldn't mind being able to wear just a t-shirt and a pair of shorts every day. I'd like to give it a try for a while! haha! :)
Hehehe
Did you ever live in a tropical place or country where it was sunny all year long? Trust me it can get really boring :p
No, I never did, Rad. I wouldn't mind trying it, though! :-)
Tast food seems to do strange things to people even before they eat it. A year or two ago we were blessed with a Sonic in our area. The hype was fairly incredible. Sonic even leased a adjacent empty lot as a pre-parking lot staging area for cars to come into and be directed from. It was packed for weeks. Now? Now when we drive by we are lucky to see the actual parking lot and car booths one fourth full, during non-meal times the place is a ghost town. Go figure, sorta like the Krispy Kreme phase we experienced ten or so years ago.
I guess that must be it, Lanny. It's just the novelty of something new being available. Krispy Kreme--mmmmm, we don't have one of those! HA! :D
Dorothy, somehow your comment went into the spam filter on Blogger, and I just found it today. I don't know why it did that. Anyway, yes, you are right. Business has slowed down considerably at the Taco Bell. I guess people have finally figured out that it's the same menu and food they used to serve except now it's in a bigger building. ha! ;)
