The Reason for the Crowd

When a giant pig, rabbit, lion, and mouse show up, people take notice, especially if there are free cookies and hot cocoa to be had.

Yes, the "Give a Pig a Pancake" Pig, Peter Rabbit, Larry our library mascot, and the "Give a Mouse a Cookie" Mouse were the reason we had so many people come to our library last Friday night as mentioned in my last blog post.  Some of your guesses were close!

The costumed storybook characters and our mascot walked in the Santa Arrival parade held in my town on Friday night.

After the parade, the public was invited to come to the library for cookies and hot cocoa and to meet the costumed characters.

The Mouse brought his own cookie.

All of the characters had Christmas lights with battery
packs attached to them while walking in the parade.

The pig had his own syrup bottle for his pancake.

I was there to take pictures of the event while some of my co-workers served up the cookies and cocoa.  We had quite a crowd of kids (and their parents and grandparents) come to meet the characters.  The kids liked hugging the storybook characters, sitting on their laps, giving them high fives, and posing for pictures with them.  It was a fun evening.  I was just glad that I was taking pictures and not wearing one of the costumes!

That looks like so much fun! I love Larry the Library Lion since that my brother's name!
I would hate to wear one of those costumes too. I think I would trip and fall!!!

Perfect thing to draw a crowd... Free food and lots of characters. Was your son dressed in one of those costumes?

Looks like loads of fun... You certainly do a great job at your library, Daisy...

Hugs,
Betsy

Oh, I wish my g'children lived near enough to visit your library!!

David, most libraries do. haha! :-D

Thank you, Susie. It did seem like most everyone had a good time. :)

Maple Lane, not only are those costumes hard to move around in, they are very heavy and very hot! :)

Betsy, both of my sons wore the costumes for the characters last year, but neither one did this year. My older son is living in Florida now, and my younger son had made other plans for that night. :)

That would be neat if they did, Kimberly! :-)

If we ever get to your town, I have got to visit both your town hall and library, Daisy. You always seem to have fun things going on - how great!

Beatrice, if you ever come this way, let me know. I'd love to meet you. :-D

What fun! THose costumes are so sweet. I can't wait to look for good books for our grandchild who's coming in May. It will only be a little while till we read. I love Beatrix Potter, but haven't met the other characters. I'm so out of it when it come to current children's books!

Debbie, I was just telling someone the other day that I miss reading children's books. I read so many to my boys when they were little. I loved the books represented by the pig and the mouse. There is a whole series of those books. I read "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" and "If You Give a Moose a Muffin," more times than I can count. The "If You Give a Pig a Pancake" one came out a little after that. I'd recommend that series if you haven't read them. :-)

Looks like fun. I imagine it would be hot in the costumes tho'.

Daisy said...

Lynne, they do get quite warm. The teens who volunteered to wear them were drinking a lot of water when the event was over, and they could finally take off the costumes.

I'd like cuddles from all of them please (I have a horrible cold and need hugs)

Hello, Kitty! Welcome and thank you for visiting and commenting here. I'm so sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. I hope you feel better soon. Thank you for becoming a follower too. Hugs to you! :-)

Brenda, it was a lot of fun. These costumes are ones the Library Director rents from a professional costume company every year, and they are always very impressive.
:-)

Kathleen, one funny thing I forgot to mention in my post is that after the event was over and the public had gone home, the teenagers who wore the costumes were switching heads back and forth to create weird combined animals. Haha! :D

Haha I guessed book signing, I wasn't even close.

Daisy said...

Ah well, it was a good guess, though, Ryan! A few days after the parade, we did have an author come to visit and do a book signing. :-D
