Random Soup

You know how sometimes you take all the leftovers from the refrigerator and throw them into a pot together to make soup?  Maybe you do that, and maybe you don't, but anyway, I call that random soup.  This blog post today is going to be of the random soup variety.   I'm clearing all the pictures off the camera and throwing them in together here for some random blog soup.  So if you're looking for a well-organized post with a theme and a beginning, middle, and end all tied together neatly with smooth transitions and clever segues, this isn't it!  Now that you've been warned, if you're still willing to stick around, here we go.

I made these Mini Upside Down Pineapple Cakes for a church potluck last weekend.  There were two plates full this size, and I didn't bring home any leftovers, so I guess they turned out pretty well!  (You can click on that link if you'd like to have the recipe.)

I think the squirrels are taking over our yard.  One day this past week I looked out and saw seven squirrels all at once sitting in the front yard eating maple seeds.  That seemed like a lot to be out there all at the same time. This is the view taken from my living room looking out through our large picture window. (I circled them in red to make them easier to see, but you may have to click on the picture to enlarge it.)

Seven squirrels at once seemed like a lot until I looked out another day and saw eleven of them all feasting together in the front yard.  I wondered if maybe this was their Thanksgiving get-together!

The indoor animal (Max the poodle dog) chose to ignore the squirrel take-over, opting instead to help me "fold" the clean laundry still warm from the dryer that I had dumped from the basket onto the couch.  Aren't I lucky to have such a willing helper?

We have had a lot of pretty sunrises lately.  Most of the time I don't have the camera with me to capture them so I enjoy them all to myself.  I did take this picture, but this sunrise, although pretty, wasn't as pretty as some of the ones I didn't get to photograph.  You'll just have to take my word for it and use your good imagination for the really beautiful ones I missed with the camera.  hahaha!

This is me in the Children's Department at the library where I work.  (No, those two mice aren't on top of my head.  They are actually sitting on a bookshelf behind me!)

I was in the Children's Department because this big crowd was about to show up there, and I was getting ready for them to arrive.

Why was this big crowd coming to the library?  I'll let you know that in my next post.  See how that works out?  You can consider this random blog soup post as an appetizer and come back for the main course blog post next time!  (Well, I hope you come back, anyway!)

I believe there must have been a squirrel convention at your house, Daisy!!! That is crazy!
Max is so sweet; I'll bet he is a LOT of help!
Those cupcakes look so moist and delicious.
I'm wondering if Santa made a visit to your library??

Enjoy the weekend.

I had to laugh at the circles around the squirrels. In the south we call those 'targets'. :D
I'll be back to finish the meal with you later....I must see what the crowd is doing!

You look nice with mice (not) on your head. Love the haircut! Your cakes are beautiful; I had heard a rumor that you can make cake that's not chocolate. We have the world's fattest squirrel in the back yard. He visits the bird feeder daily.

Maple Lane, Max always wants to be in the middle of whatever I'm doing. He THINKS he is helping, anyway. haha! No, Santa didn't come to visit, but your guess is pretty close. :-D

Debbie--"targets"--hahaha! Yes, maybe so! :-D

Thank you, Diana. You know, I very rarely make any cake but chocolate, but for some reason I decided to try this recipe. My mom used to make the bigger version of pineapple upside down cake when I was little, and I happened to think about that when I saw this recipe in an ad. So I decided to make it. They went pretty fast at the potluck so maybe I'll make them again sometime. :-D

Hi Daisy! That's funny about the two mice! They really do look like they're on top of your head. Are you sure they weren't??!! :)

I love the picture of your doggy snuggling in the warm clothes! I'll have to try that for Vern sometime! :D

HA! Susie, those squirrels are everywhere here. Now that the leaves are gone, I can see them more easily in the trees, and it seems like there are so many of them! :)

Becky, Max always comes running when he sees me with the laundry basket. He assumes, like everything else that goes on in this house, that I do that just for him! haha! Vern will love the warm clothes, I bet! :-)

Great idea for a post Daisy. Was their a book signing taking place at the library?

Daisy said...

Thanks, Ryan. No, it wasn't a book signing, but that's a good guess. We do have a book signing coming up next week! The people in these pictures were gathered for another reason. It wasn't for a visiting author, but we did have some special visitors! :)

The pineapple cakes look delicious. I'm intrigued to know why all those people were at the library.

Daisy said...

Hi Lynne! The cakes were pretty easy and turned out well. Anything easy works for me.

I will probably post either Monday night or Tuesday night about why these people came to the library. I need to get the pictures from my camera at work. :)

Daisy said...

Ha! Carol, yes, it did seem we were about to be under siege from all the squirrels. :)

Thanks, EBet! I'm glad it made you laugh. They were eating those maple seeds as fast as they could find them. :-D

This is a good idea (to put together pictures with no connection with each other..... one day I may do this)
You are blessed to have so many squirrels in your yard.
I love to watch them.

Daisy said...

Joe, the squirrels are entertaining to watch, that's true. You take great pictures. If you did a post like this, I'm sure it would be a good one. :)
