LILIES DANCING THE CAN-CAN
From a distance
the lilies of summer look like flames;
leaping, snapping, burning.
The flower beds are on fire!
Up close
they are flashy showgirl dames;
kicking, shouting, whirling,
objects of desire.
Petals become petticoats
lifted up for twirls and spins.
Pistils and stamens
are dancers' feet
kicking out the can-can;
heels up,
up, as high as their chins.

My friend Paige has passed another award on to me, because she is sweet like that. She calls me one of her dear internets. You have to like someone who calls you that! She is also quite stylish, and she says I'm stylish too! I don't know about me being stylish. I'll just have to take her word for it.
I'm supposed to tell you seven things about myself and then pass this award on to someone else. I may be stylish, but I don't always follow the rules. I'm not choosing one or two bloggers to pass this on to, I'm choosing all of you over there in my blog list. Those of you who are interested can take the award above and put it on your blogs and tell everyone that you are stylish. You can even tell folks that Daisy said so, because I do!
As for seven things about me, I'm not sure what's left to tell that I haven't already blabbed about here on my blog, but here are seven random things about me.
1. In college, I was required to take three phys. ed. classes. The three I chose were aerobic dance, jazz dance, and yoga. I liked the yoga class so much that I took advanced yoga too as an extra elective.
2. My brother sent me a birthday card this year that had this picture on the cover.
On the inside it said, "Welcome to the 'One-Frikkin-Candle-on-the-Cake-is-Enough' Club!" This card made me laugh, a lot! My brother is very good at choosing cards that make me laugh. I like that about him.
3. My favorite flavor of Blizzard from Dairy Queen is Chocolate Xtreme (although I won't turn down a Georgia Mud Fudge Blizzard or a Reese's Cup Blizzard or just about any other flavor of Blizzard if someone offers it).
4. I saw fat Elvis in the sky the other day. No really, I did! I know you don't believe me. I took a picture to prove it to you, though. See there he is.
Do you see him there? What do you mean, you don't see him? He's right there! Oh, all right. I made him bigger and drew lines around him so you could see him. Here, maybe you can see him now.
OK, so I'm not very good at drawing Elvis, and it looked more like Elvis before I drew lines around him. Hahahaha! Welcome to my world.
5. I've been enjoying seeing all the green of summer these days. I'm trying to savor every moment of the summer with the green of the grass and the trees because I miss them so much in the grey and white of winter when it comes around. I took this picture on a walk in the park just because I thought the green all around was so pretty. The clouds in the sky caught my attention too.
Very peaceful looking, don't you think? You can click on the picture to make it bigger, and then you can pretend like you're walking on that path with me.
6. In the sixth grade I made a raised relief map of the state of Utah out of that homemade play-doh stuff kids make out of salt and flour and such. What a nightmare that project was! Lugging it in to school and home again on the bus was not much fun either because it had to be kept flat on the piece of cardboard that I built it on.
7. In biology class in high school, we had one whole section of our studies on identifying trees. I really enjoyed that. We also had to dissect a cat for that class. I didn't enjoy that part of the class much.
Well, there you have it--seven random things about me. If you have any random facts about yourself that you'd like to share, put them in the comments. I know I'll enjoy reading them.

Hi Daisy, Love seeing your lilies --and especially that neat poem.....
I enjoyed reading about your 7 random things.. I always learn so much about my blog friends when they do this....
Great Elvis!!!!! Love that card your brother sent you.... CUTE!!!!
I took some kind of Modern Dance in college to get the necessary PE Requirements in... What a JOKE!!!!! ha
Hugs,
Betsy
Beautiful lilies and poem, Daisy. I enjoyed the fun facts about you too. Have a great day.
Congratulations on the award Daisy. I think you are good at drawing. It certainly made Elvis appear for me.
Betsy, I was amazed at all the choices they had for PE when I was in college. They even had things like archery and bowling! :)
Thank you, Mildred! I hope you have a great day too! :)
Thank you, Lynne. After all these years, hard to believe there could be another Elvis sighting. haha! :D
Sorry I didn't see Elvis till you drew him in. You funny girl. Love the seven things about you. I remember that yucky stuff made of flour and salt and water. Lovely place to walk and it does look so peaceful.
Pretty lilies and love the Green picture, too. Daisy, you have a wild imagination!!! Who else would have ever 'seen' Elvis in the sky??? :)
I guess all the dance and yoga made college fun!!!
Congratulations on the award and I love your liles. I love that beautiful poem..Susie
Becca, the play doh we made was very gritty from the salt in it. I can still kind of remember how it smelled too. :D
Dorothy, I do have flights of fancy sometimes with my imagination! haha! :D
Thank you, Susie! You are very kind. :)
Always such fun to visit you, read your poetry & enjoy your fabulous pictures, Daisy. You should compile a book of your poetry.
TY for you sweet wishes for the little church down our road. The congregation I am sure will rebuild. All that is left is the frame.
Have a wonderful week.
TTFN ~
Marydon
Thank you, Marydon. :-)
I hope they will be able to rebuild the church. Such a loss without it.
Have a nice weekend!
Great blog! I love the birthday card picture. I could use that card to send to a friend for her birthday. lol.
Random thing:
I play Sleeping Beauty in the musical Sleeping Beauty for the community theatre when I was 17.
I played second base for the women's softball team when I was 25.
Poor me still posting my 7 Random fact now at the 6th since April. Like Elvis's pix so pelvisly drawn. Bananaz love yoga too. Wow if flowers can dance and talk you would be the first to dance with them. Pretty nice dancing captions for the lilies. Thumbs up. tQ
Thank you, Susan. Oooh, Sleeping Beauty! I hope the Prince was a handsome one. :D I am impressed with you being on the softball team. I have no talent in that area at all! A ball comes my way, my first reaction is to duck, not try and catch it. I hope you enjoy your weekend!
Bananaz, you've been posting your list since April? Ha! Maybe #7 is that it takes you a while to think up random things. haha!;)
Thank you for your kind words. Dancing with flowers sounds like something I'd like to do. I hope you have a nice weekend. :-)
Another way of looking at lilies!
Your relief map reminded me of my saxiphone memeories in sixth grade, it was huge and I lived too close to ride the bus but to far to lug that puppy and not arrive a sweaty embarrassed mess on band day.
Oh my, Lanny. That sounds like a nightmare. I guess I was lucky to have the bus to ride when I look at it that way! :-)
elvis in the sky, hahahah. I was going to get off computer and scanned down a little bit and saw the cloud thing - you are so creative, ha.
Ha! Well, you know what they say, Sandy. "There's a fine line between creativity and insanity." :D
I always love your cloud pictures! I'm guessing there were some unhappy cat people in Biology class. We had to disect a frog, which was bad enough.
The Elvis...hahahahahahahahahah....
and the card too....
and I've always wanted a can-can girl dress since forever. I'm very jealous that those tu-tu skirts have come out for little girls and not grown up girls...I would love love love to wear one and a swishy red petticoat to church!
Diana, yes, there were several of us who weren't too happy with dissecting the cat. We had the frog too, and also an earthworm to dissect. }:-{
Haha! Dapoppins, I'm glad Elvis made you laugh. :D I think if you want a can-can dress with a swishy petticoat that you ought to have one!
I like the image of the lilies as can can dancers! :-)
And yes, that does look like Elvis! (Do you think people still think he's alive?)
Daisy,
I love the lilies and your poem is marvelous. I was glad to learn more things about you. How interesting! I love the image of lilies as dancers.
Gayle, I suppose there are some who think Elvis is still around, but I think they're holding onto a fantasy. Ha! :)
Thank you, Brenda! I'm glad you liked my poem. :D
