I'm Sitting Behind Someone With a Big Head Again (of course!)

Our City Orchestra held another concert in my church this past week and my younger son was there playing along with them on his upright bass.  We were very grateful to have the air-conditioned sanctuary for the performance. As in much of the country, the heat has really settled in here.  This song is Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'."

This next song called "Arabian Dreams" was performed by a quintet made up of the high school orchestra conductor, the city orchestra conductor, two college students with music majors, and my son.  He was thrilled to be invited to join this group for this song.  It is a galloping piece that just might put the thought of Arabian horses racing through the night  into your head.

Happy weekend everyone!

I enjoyed the music very much. Wonderful job by your son. How do you find these

Enjoy the weekend.

Dorothy, I sat in the second row and thought, "We're in a church. No one will sit in front of me because no one ever sits in the front row at church!" Hahaha! I was wrong about that apparently. :)

Mildred, I didn't find them, they found me! HAHA! I was sitting there first, and they came and sat in front of me. :-D

I'm glad you both enjoyed the music. Have a good weekend!

Daisy
I wish I could have heard it live!
Is your son younger than the other musicians? Was he playing different insturments in the 2 video's? Just wondering!

It's lovely Daisy. You must be very proud.

I enjoyed them both and I know you are so proud of your son. Beautiful songs too. Happy weekend to you too..Susie

Kimberley, my son was younger than all the others in the quintet. He is a junior in high school. The orchestra itself is made up of ages from freshman in high school to senior citizens, so it's a good mix. He played the same instrument in both videos--the upright bass, or some call it a double bass. :)

Thank you, Lynne. :D Yes, I am proud of my son.

Thank you, Susie! I liked the songs the director chose for them for this concert too. Thank you for the kind words. Enjoy your weekend! :)

Marydon, I just don't have very good luck with choosing the right seat. Ha! I could have moved elsewhere, but some friends had already sat down with me where I was, so I thought it would be silly to move. :-) I had a better view this time than I did for the last concert, at least! I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Nice! I wonder if those gals know what a great shot you had of the back of their heads - tee hee.

Ha! Diana, I'm pretty sure one of them knew it, at least. :-)

The last school concert I attended saw me sitting next to a loudmouth argh...ruined the show for me. Next time you should show up early and grab a seat in the front row Daisy.

Daisy said...

Ryan, I guess that's what I'll have to do. Oh well, the music was good no matter where I sat. :)

Daisy, thanks for sharing this performance. Very nice playing by everyone.

I'm glad you liked it, Beatrice. Thank you! :-)

I can't say much, as I have a very large head. But I liked the vids! Journey must be loving how their song is popular again.

Daisy said...

Cary, the director, when she introduced this song, made a similar comment. She seemed to think that this Journey song in particular had grown in popularity recently because of it being on the TV show, "Glee." I don't know if that is why it has become popular again, but it does seem to be everywhere lately. And I think your head is exactly the size it should be. :-) I'm glad you liked the music.

I have always loved Don't Stop Believin' and really didn't think anything could top Steve Perry's fab vocals on it. That said,I believe I liked this orchestral version the best! I LOVED it.

Oh that Arabian Dreams was just amazing too. So beautiful...and yes, I could see the white horses with heads lifted high prancing to the tune. In the beginning I think there was a camel train too!

I sure hope your son is going to be a music major in college. You tell him I said so!!

Daisy said...

Cassie, he is indeed planning on a music major in college. He already has the school picked out and wants to major in both performance and in music education. :-)
