Busy Summer

We had the pleasure of meeting my older son's girlfriend this past week.  She lives in New Jersey, but she came to stay with us for a week.  She attends college in Ohio (not the same college my son went to), but they actually met at a church conference in Indiana. She has been overseas the last several months in Denmark in a student exchange program.  I had "met" her over Skype much earlier when she was talking to my son, but this was the first time to actually meet her face to face.

She is as sweet and kind as she is pretty, and I already love her, so the week went very well.

I even got to share a girls' day out with her and my other son's girlfriend.  The three of us went to see a "girly" movie while the men in the family went to see the latest Transformers offering.  The girls voted to see the movie Midnight in Paris, which is a romantic comedy, time travel, kind of  artsy Woody Allen movie starring Owen Wilson and Rachel McAdams.  This is the trailer from the movie.  I actually thought the movie was better than what the trailer portrays, but I guess they can only do so much in a two minute promotional spot.

Also this week, we went to another concert by our city orchestra (an all-volunteer orchestra who performs for free for the community made up of people from high school age to senior citizens).  My younger son plays the upright bass with this group.  Usually he is one of either two or three people who are playing the bass, but for this particular concert, he was the only one.  Their latest concert was held in the beautiful, air-conditioned sanctuary of our church.  There was a good-sized crowd on hand, and they were very appreciative of the music.

Here are a couple of short videos I made from the concert.  The theme for this concert was music from movies and musicals so it was a fun one for everyone to attend.  This first video is of the song "Oklahoma."  I went up closer to the front of the church and stood at the side to make this video.  If you squint and look really close, you can see my son playing the upright bass standing under and a little to the left of the cross. HA!  You'll have to forgive me.  I'm a Mom, saving the memories, you know.  My son's girlfriend is in both of these videos as well.  She is playing the violin to the left of the director,  but you only catch a glimpse of her every once in a while, and she is pretty fuzzy.

This second clip I made from where we were sitting way back in the pews.  My son is pretty difficult to see in this one, but they played well.  This is the theme from "Mission Impossible."

My son's passion for music is keeping him busy this summer.  In addition to the city orchestra, he is also playing in the pit orchestra for the local community theater's summer musical production of the Wizard of Oz which is showing at the end of this month.  He is also keeping busy with the string quintet that he is in.  They have been playing for wedding receptions and birthday parties and other such events.  In fact, today they are scheduled to play at another wedding locally.

While he will be providing the music at that wedding today, my husband and I will be attending another wedding elsewhere in a town about an hour from here.  One of my husband's co-workers is getting married.  This summer is flying by so fast.  I'd like to slow it down and keep it around longer.

Daisy I felt out of breath just reading your post, you are so busy as is your son. His blossoming career in music seems to be really taking off. Glad you and the girls found a couple of hours to carch a movie though.
Keep enjoying your summer...it won't last forever.

Hi Daisy, Grenville and I are both natives of NJ like your son's girlfriend, but probably not from the same areas even if it is a small state. The concert videos were wonderful - such a talented group of musicians including your won and his girlfriend. Thsanks for sharing. And, the movie clip was great too but I will have to wait for the film to get to Netflix cause we don't have movie theatres closeby and I sometimes miss that. Yes, the summer is going by so very fast for us too!

Daisy said...

Betsy, haha! Yes, you are pretty busy yourself to give that advice. hahaha! :D

Thank you, Ryan. It was fun to go out and see a movie. I hadn't been to one for a while. :-)

Thank you, Beatrice. Most of the time, I wait for movies to be on DVD or watch them on Netflix anymore too. It seems like it doesn't take very long for them to be available for watching them at home these days. I'm glad you liked the music videos. The audience there that night was enthusiastic and appreciative too. :-D

Your son and his girl make a very attractive couple. Loved the videos. And those lilies are beautiful.

Daisy said...

Thank you Lady Jane. :-) The lilies are growing over in the park where I like to walk. They do a great job keeping the flower beds full of color.

What a lovely young lady and she and your son make a great couple. You must be so proud of your sons. I enjoyed the music videos and how grand that your son is being booked for wedding receptions etc.
That is ironic that you gave wind chimes for a wedding gift and that I blogged about them. I know for sure the newlyweds will enjoy your thoughtful gift for years and think of your kindness when they hear the chimes.
Hope you have a nice week.

Daisy said...

Thank you, Mildred. My boys do make me smile a lot. :-) I hope you have a great week too!

Mission impossible to see him in the 2nd video managed to get a bit here and there. Yeah saw him much clearly in the 1st video clip.

Daisy said...

Thank you, Kochuravi! I hope you have a good day too! :)

Bananaz, yes it turned out much better when I moved closer to the front of the church. I still didn't get very close, but I didn't want to block anyone's view by going closer. The music was the important thing anyway. :D

She is definitely pretty. How fun to go see that movie, that is one I would like. I enjoyed the post.

i'll have to come back to catch up later

Such a pretty girl! How wonderful that your son has a passion for music. Since my close friend has moved away, it has been forever since I have been able to sneak away to watch a "girly movie".

Daisy said...

Thanks, Sandy. Hang in there. You'll get moved to a new place bfore long, and eventually things will start to feel normal again. :)

Kathleen, too bad we don't live closer or I'd go to the movies with you. Living in a house full of males, I rarely go out to see a "girly" movie either. :-)

Daisy those boys are growing up so fast. Before you know it you're gonna be planning a wedding or two. So happy for you. I know you are proud of those fine sons.

Daisy said...

Thank you, Becca. They are growing up fast. I suppose weddings aren't too far off, but I'm not quite ready for them yet! ha! :)

whoa, my word veri is "chump" what's THAT supposed to mean? ;-)

Daisy said...

Hi J! I hope you like the movie. Give Ky a big hug for me. Maybe that will slow her down a little. ;)

No clue to the word verification. Just the luck of the draw, I guess. Hahaha!

Great to catch up with you, Daisy! Your son's girlfriend looks lovely. Glad your summer is music-filled!

I am enjoying my last days of summer with my sons before they leave for college. These days are precious!

Daisy said...

Welcome back, Betty! Yes, I agree. These days are very precious. I'm doing the same with my older son before he leaves for graduate school. :)

She look adorable & meeting in my home state, wow what could be better.

Okay so I'm not believing the Dissect a Cat thang. Really? no way.

ladydi said...

Lovely gal, stirring music, wonderful summer! Like you, I'd like it to slow down.

Daisy said...

Thanks, Speedy! :-) Sometimes I get carried away with my posts, and they just go on and on. haha!

Thank you, Dapoppins! I'm glad you liked the music. They held it in our church because it is air conditioned and there was room there for a large crowd. :)

Paige, yes, senior year in high school in biology class we dissected cats. They are provided by some company for science classes to use to dissect. I didn't care much for it, but it was a requirement of the class. We also dissected an earthworm and a frog in that class. :\

Hi Diana! Summer is just zipping by, isn't it. I hope you are enjoying yours! :)
