Another Wild Librarian Party

I woke up at 6:00 this morning, the usual time for me on a work day.  Knowing that coverage of the Royal Wedding was supposed to have started at 4:00 am on the television, I turned it on to see how far along the ceremony was.  As it turned out, the procession was just then starting up the aisle at the church, so apparently I didn't miss too much.  It wasn't worth missing any sleep over.

My husband watched some of it with me providing his own running commentary to accompany the ceremony "Mystery Science Theater 3000" style.  For example, as the bride was coming down the aisle, Prince Harry turned and said something to Prince William.  Husband chimed in with, "You can still back out if you run now!"

When the camera panned across the faces, husband said, "Oh look, there's the Queen--oh no, wait--that's Elton John."

Young son joined in too.  Noticing the long train on the bride's dress, he contributed, "Don't step on her dress!  Don't step on her dress!"  The two of them went on like that for a while, egging each other on.  Needless to say, the romance of the moment was rather lost on them.

After closing at the library tonight, my co-workers and I had an "After the Wedding" party. These are pictures of a pretty tree covered with white blossoms out in front of the library.  Parts of the street the library is on is lined with these trees.  The fact that they were all out in bloom added to the festive feel in the air for celebrating the Royal Wedding day.

We had a great time at the library party.  The ladies wore fancy hats or fascinators made from flowers and feathers and lace and such, something like these:

(I took pictures of my co-workers at the party, but it was with the library camera and for official "business" as part of my job, so I thought it would be best if I not post them on my blog.)

I baked chocolate-cherry butter scones for the party (I substituted chocolate covered dried cherries for the cherries.)...

and others brought chips and dips, crackers and cheese, and other edible goodies.

The reference librarian, who is crazy and creative and tons of fun, brought all of us a sapphire and diamond ring exactly like the bride's engagement ring (OK, well, they were exactly like hers except that hers was real and ours  were not, but it was close enough to give us all a smile).  Here's mine:

See, it looks just like Kate's!

She also passed out little plastic animals made to hang on the edge of a glass.  I got a little blue monkey.  Isn't he cute!

I was drinking from a can of diet Pepsi instead of a glass, so he didn't work too well at the party, but I brought it home because it was so whimsical.

The reference librarian also brought along fake plastic "British" teeth for whoever wanted them.  I didn't get any teeth because I was busy taking pictures when they were handed out, but that is probably just as well!!

She had us all laughing as she talked with a British accent and wore those silly teeth along with her large, fancy, very extravagant fascinator that included feathers, flowers, and even some pussy willow branches!!

She was very animated as she talked which made the pussy willows bounce around.  The two people sitting next to her had to keep ducking and dodging so that the bobbing pussy willows didn't hit them in the face!  We had a blast, and it was a fun way to celebrate the Royal Wedding day.

The party sounds like so much fun. Your face muscles must hurt from so much laughing!

Your husband and son sound much like John and Larry re the wedding.

One of the funniest comments I heard by a fashion expert was that Princess Ann's outfit reminded him of "cole slaw!!!"

Thanks for sharing with us about your co-workers and your party and those trees are certainly beautiful!

Daisy, you're blessed to have a husband and friends with a sense of humor. We had no idea what our librarians do when the library closes! For some reason our digital TV died on Thursday evening and didn't recover until late yesterday, so I only heard and saw what the reporters wanted me to. It was plenty ;D
Love the ring!

Loved the family commentary and how nice of the trees to bloom just right for the after party! Sounds like you all had big time fun. No one knows how to party like librarians!

Mildred, we laughed ourselves silly. I can just imagine Larry and John making wisecracks right along with my family. :D

Debbie, I do feel very lucky to have so many in my life with a good sense of humor. They make life better. :)

David, having a reason to celebrate and have a little fun made the party interesting. You never know what librarians will do! :-)

Dorothy, we did have a good time. I have some very funny co-workers who like to make people laugh. I like your profile picture--that's a really nice photo!

Betty, I love this time of year because one of our main streets has these trees all along them. It's so pretty when they all are in bloom at the same time.

Sandy, I wish I could have taken a video of the reference librarian as she tried to talk with a British accent. She is just a very funny gal. :)

It must be a girl thing - the guys in my family weren't interested either. We gals like pretty princess stories with happy endings. Your library party sounds like a blast - what fun! The thing I like best is that FINALLY girls may be willing to wear wedding dresses with sleeves again, after a hiatus of far far too long. I always think it's a shame that the girl is blue and freezing in her strapless gown, while the guys are perspiring in their layers of tuxedo shirt, vest, and jacket.

Diana, it does seem unbalanced sometimes with the men in all their layers and women with bare shoulders. Kate's wedding gown was quite lovely, I thought. We did have great fun at the party. I work with a great group of people. :)

It sounds great fun Daisy.

Good morning, Lynne. We did enjoy the party. It's easy to have fun when you're in such good company. :)

Wow Daisy! This was a fun packed post. [Just got interupted by a friend here at Starbuck's---now I'm back!] Lucky for Pat, he was already back in AZ, so he didn't have to endure my watching the festivities from 1am-4am. hehe. I say Hootie woke me up to go potty at 1, so I couldn't fall back to sleep. (I guess I'm a closet royal watcher.) Your party sounded fun. Loved the flowery, white trees too. Ahhhhh. This is a great time of year. Have a good week my friend!

Daisy said...

Oh my, Cassie! You were up from 1:00 on! That would have been much too early for me. I like my sleep too much. HA! :D I hope you have a great week too!

Oh my gosh, Daisy! I loved the funny things your husband and son said during the wedding! I'll have to remember that for other upcoming "special" events! Loved the hats and fun at your after work party, too. And loved the gorgeous white blossoms on the tree! Wow...it really doesn't snow there 12 months of the year, does it?! :D

Daisy said...

Hi Becky! My husband and son are a funny pair all right. ha! Spring has finally arrived. I hope to not see any snow here for at least seven months or so! Although, I think some of the trees with white blossoms look a little like they are covered with snow. :D

Your fellow library workers are anything but a dull group, Daisy. I didn't watch any of the royal wedding coverage, aside from some online snippets. Wonder whose after the wedding party was the most fun -- yours or the one in England?

Daisy said...

Beatrice, that's a good question. Too bad they didn't televise some of their reception party. I would have liked to see that. ha! :D

Daisy,
Sounds as though you had a lot of fun at the library party. The photos are great. I love the flowers. Hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day.

No one puts the party in party like a librarian!!

Your hubby and young son sound like real hoots!

And Hey, wasn't Princess Di's ring a bit like that? Or does my memory fail me?

And I'll take a scone, please!! :)

xoxo

Daisy said...

Thank you, Brenda. I hope you have a lovely Mother's day too. :)

Jannie, yes! It's the same ring. From what I've read, the sapphire and diamond ring that William gave to Kate for their engagement was the same one that belonged to Diana. :-)

SHHHH!!!! Quiet in the library PLEEZE! ha ha

HA! Karen, sometimes I think the librarians are the noisiest ones in the building. :D
