Poor Charley. He tried four times to catch the same cricket and missed every time. Then he went back under his flower pot house to sulk...or so I thought! Actually, he was incorporating a cunning stealth move into his lunchtime adventure by lying in wait for his prey.
CRUNCH! Mmmm...tasty!! What do you know, maybe Charley is brighter than I thought he was!
I guess it's true that good things come to those who wait. (Well...if you consider a cricket for your lunch a GOOD thing.)

Oh YUM..... Don't you want a cricket for lunch????? Think I'll pass and let Charley have them all.
Glad he planned a good strategy....
Cute videos.
Hugs,
Betsy
Hi Betsy! Charley was really licking his lips over that cricket, wasn't he. :D Have a nice Sunday!
Ahhh, the joys of nature! I'm really glad my son isn't into the reptile type pets. He has a friend down the road that has a snake; ugh...I don't think I could have a snake in my house...ewwwww!
Hi Tracy. I don't think I could allow a snake either. I'm not a fan of snakes at all! Charley is pretty easy to take care of, though. I'm much more of a cat or dog person myself--something I can pet and cuddle. :-)
Great videos Daisy. Charley might just be smarter than you think! Does Max pay any attention to him??
Good morning, Mildred. :-) No, Max never pays any attention to him. He does get jealous though if he hears me talk to Charley. He will come and stand next to me and whine and try to get my attention away if he hears me talk to the lizard. HA HA HA! :D
I swear that Charley was smiling in that last video after he ate that cricket - LOL! Great and fascinating to watch Daisy!
He did look pretty happy, didn't he, Shelley. :-D
That is too funny about Max not wanting you to talk to Charley!!! Hope you have a nice week.
Thank you, Mildred. You too! :)
I'm with Betsy, Charley can have all my crickets. Cute video tho.
That is so cute Daisy. Funny Charley. I never knew they could be entertaining.
Thank you, Susie. You won't catch me with any crickets on my plate either! HA! :-)
Becca, I wouldn't have thought he'd be funny to watch before we had him, but he does make us laugh sometimes.
Daisy, admittedly Charley is not my idea of a fun pet, but it seems he can be very entertaining at times. Wondering if he caught the other crickets for dinner?
Beatrice, Charley did catch all the rest of those crickets eventually, yes. I'm not sure if he had them for lunch or dinner. I didn't stay to watch him after I took the videos.
We feed him once a day. Depending on the size of the crickets, we give him 2 to 5 of them a day. He almost always catches and eats them all by the next time we feed him. :-)
Wow, I've never seen a lizard that looked like that! Cute little thing...
I have a cunning plan lol. Ever since my eldest son aged 5 saw a lizard someone brought into his school, he has been nagging us for one of his own. Would you recommend one, I'm still VERY unsure.
Sandy, he's a spotted leopard gecko. :-)
Ryan, I'm not sure if I would recommend one of these for a 5 year old. I'd say no, if he is wanting to handle it and pick it up a lot. These spotted leopard geckos don't like to be touched very much--at least Charley doesn't.
If your son just wants one to watch and take care of, then this would probably work. They are fairly easy to take care of. Give them fresh water and a few crickets and scoop out the lizard poop once a day. Turn a light on over them (for heat) in the morning and turn it off at night. Clean the aquarium they live in every so often when the sand gets dirty and needs to be replaced.
The biggest hassle is having to go to the pet store about once a week to buy crickets, so if you don't have someplace close by that sells crickets, that may be an annoyance for you. You have to keep a separate cricket box for the crickets to live in until you feed them to the lizard too. We feed the crickets carrot sticks.
Also, this kind of lizard has a pretty long life span, so you have to be willing to take care of him for many years ahead.
If your son wants a companion or a pet that he can cuddle and play with, I'd recommend a kitten or puppy instead. I don't know about any other kinds of lizards. This is the only kind we've ever owned. So maybe there are other kinds that like to be handled more?
I'd ask questions of your local pet dealer and/or do some more research on the net to be sure before buying one.
Also, if you get one for your son, be prepared for the possibility that he will get bored with it quickly if he can't pick it up and play with it, and then YOU end up being the one to take care of it!
Daisy,
What an entertaing video. Charley sure knows how to capture your attention. What a unique pet. How funny considering a cricket for your lunch. Loved this posting.
Hi Brenda! I'm glad you liked this post. He is fun to watch. :-D
Charley has a very self satisfied look on his face as he licks his lips. Great photography!
Thank you, Diana. He does seem pleased with himself. :)
Haha, gotta love lizards. When I lived in southeast Asia, there were huge lizards called Tokay Gekos that were really beautiful, endearing, and huge. I loved watching their antics.
Hello Ben. Thank you for visiting here and taking time to comment. I've never heard of Tokay Geckos, but I know that lizards come in all sizes and varieties. When we visited Florida, my sons got a kick out of watching the little tiny ones they have there in the bushes and trees and such. :)
Woo-hoo, Charley! Good going!
That was pretty cute...thanks for sharing and making me grin.....
I'm glad you liked it, Carol. :D
He looks pretty clever! Made me smile and remember when my youngest son had a lizard! blessings,Kathleen
Hi Kathleen. I think boys like lizards because they look like little dinosaurs. :D
He sure is CUTE.
And his house is great.
Looks like his belly is nice and round so you're feeding him well! ;)
xoxo
Jannie, it seems like every time we turn around we are going to the pet store to buy crickets! HA! :D
