Feeling a Little like Jane Jetson!!

Do you remember the flying cars that had the glass bubble on top used by George Jetson and his family?

I'm feeling a little like Jane Jetson today because last night I got a new car!  Well, it's new to me anyway.  It is a 2009 Honda Fit.  Because it has such great visibility in all directions, gets fantastic gas mileage, and is so much fun to drive, it feels like I am flying about in a Jetson car.  I love it!!

I haven't had a new car in sixteen years, so this is pretty exciting for me.  My younger son is excited too because he now has my old car.  Yes, he has inherited my little red, sixteen-year-old Geo Metro.  I'm not sure how lucky that makes him, but I suppose having my old car is better than having no car at all which is what his status was until last night.  We actually bought the Metro when I was pregnant with him.  I was eight months pregnant when we bought it, and I could barely fit behind the steering wheel!

Although there are lots of cool features with my new car, one of my favorites is how the back seats can fold down and make the whole back area a huge cargo space.  Plenty of room to haul just about anything back there.

I am definitely feeling like dancing tonight.  And since my new car has me feeling like Jane Jetson, I found a video of Jane Jetson (and some other characters from that show) dancing!

Wow, your car is beautiful Daisy! Congratulations! It does have very good visibility, Jane! I have not thought of the Jetson's in a long time, but oh how I loved to watch them when I was young. Good for your younger son too! Keep on dancing!

Thanks, Mildred! I couldn't believe I found a video of Jane Jetson dancing. HA!

Looks like a great car there and I can only guess at the gas mileage - up in the 30s? Thanks for the Jetson memories too. Enjoy the car, but try not to actually dance while IN it...

Yes, between 32 and 35, I think it's supposed to get. It even has a gizmo right on the dash that tells what the gas mileage is as you drive! I'll try to wait and dance only when I'm not driving, but the stereo system in it is pretty nice too! Might be hard to sit still. HA! :D

You always find the perfect video! What a cute car! It's YOU, Daisy! I love that the back seats fold down. They do that in our Chrysler Sto n Go van. It sure is handy when you need more space. I can imagine you son is very happy, too! Enjoy!

Whooo-woo! Nice! I told Larry about the 16 year old car you replaced and he said, "Could it be that she is even more frugal than we are?"

Daisy said...

Thanks, Dorothy! It does feel like a good fit for me. :D

Diana, I held onto that car a long while, didn't I? HA! And now my son can get another year or two out of it too!! :-D

What's next? A gizmo that will dress you and do your hair? Congrats on the new car, Daisy! It looks wonderful!

Car looks fantastic, if I were your son I'd be over the moon getting a FREE car, I wouldn't care how old it was. Have fun.

Daisy said...

Thanks, Jen! :D

Thanks, Betty! Hey, I bet that kind of a gizmo would be a big seller!:D

Thanks, Ryan! He does seem pretty pleased about it. :-)

Cute! Both! that is lots of cargo room and you still have a passenger seat for the ranch hand!

Daisy said...

Thanks, Lanny! It feels so roomy in the front seats to me too because of the way it is designed. It is a small car on the outside but big on the inside. :D

Beautiful car, Daisy.... I remember when I bought my first NEW car... It was a 1983 Toyota Corolla Station Wagon---bright yellow. I had gotten a divorce a year before and had two little boys with me.. (Other son had gone to college)... I was so excited about getting that cute little yellow car... I felt like Jane Jetson also!!!!

CONGRATS.
Hugs,
Betsy

wow, congratulations. That is one darn good looking car and you deserve it. That is a long time without a new car. I can imagine your son being happy to have your car...any car when you have none is great.

Congrats on the new car! I like the Fit, though I'm not a small car person myself. The neighbor has one that's an orange ribbon-candy color, and the only word that comes to mind is 'bippy'.

Actually, the perfect "Jetson's car" would have been the AMC Pacer. Now that was a bubble on wheels.

So excited for you. I know how you feel. I drive an old car and badly in need. I know you are feeling like Jane now. That car looks like it'll fly too. Lucky son to have a car even if it is old. Funny we bought my daughter a very old car for her first one - we were wanting something big though so if in an accident it might not be so bad. Her car got nicknamed 'the bomb'. Have a good day riding around.

How wonderful! Congratulations on your sweet new ride. :D

Betsy, yellow is my favorite color. I bet that was a pretty car you had! :D

Thank you, Sandy. It does seem like it has been a very long time since I've had a new one. :)

Elliott, when I hear that word, I immediately think of "You bet your sweet bippy!" from the old Laugh-In show. :D I saw the orange ones and didn't particularly care for the color, but if that had been the only color they had, I probably would have gotten it anyway.

Wixy, I remember those Pacers. They did have a lot of glass to them!

Thank you, Becca. My son seems pretty pleased. It is certainly better for him than having to walk or ride his bike. :D

Thank you, Melissa! :D

OMG, do I want to know what jump jive and wail means?

Congrats on your futuristic-mobile! I've actually felt that way about my Jetta Wolfsberg because it has a sun roof!

Daisy said...

Thank you, Karen! It was even fun buying groceries tonight because of the cool cargo space. :D

HA! Sarah, I think it just refers to a kind of swing dance and music, but I'm not sure. :D

Thanks! A sun roof would be neat to have, I bet.

Jeri, I watched the Jetsons all the time too. As for the Clever family--"Leave it to Beaver" is probably one of my all-time favorite shows. :D

Jannie, everyone I've talked to and the research we did all said that the Honda is one of the best cars out there. I didn't know your husband sells them! I feel lucky to have it. :D
