31 and Counting...

I met this handsome guy 31 years ago today.  We met at college at a party, introduced by a mutual friend.  Shortly after we met, we realized that we also shared a class that quarter.   "Folklore as Popular Culture"  was the name of the class and our instructor's name was Ralph.  I don't remember learning a whole lot in that class, at least nothing that was very useful, but it did turn out to be a lot of fun taking it because of the fact that we were in it together.

We had our first date the next week after meeting at that party.  We went to see the Beatles cartoon movie, "Yellow Submarine," that was showing on old movies night at the campus theater.  We had both seen the movie many years earlier, but it was fun to see it again.  And the rest, as they say, is history.  We were married five years later and have been married ever since, of course.  We will celebrate 26 years of marriage this summer.

So many of our friends and family members have been through divorces and had such sadness brought into their lives as a result, that we feel very lucky to have found one another and to have beat the odds that face long term married couples.  We have had our ups and downs like any married couple does, but we feel very lucky to still be together and happily so.

WOW---what a great story, Diaisy.... But--why did you wait 5 yrs. to get married???? Whatever the reasons, it obviously has worked well for you. My first marriage ended in divorce --like so many. BUT--my marriage to George is AWESOME.
Hugs,
Betsy

Thank you, Karen. God bless you too! :-)

Thank you, Betsy. We waited to get married until after my husband had his masters degree and had lined up an internship job. I worked and saved money while he finished his schooling. We wanted to get started off on the right foot. It worked out well for us. :-)

Congrats Daisy - ...so glad to see another couple make it this far. Loved reading about your first date..how you met..etc.

In May, it will be 40 years for me....but actually 44 because we dated for 4 years...I don't feel old at all, that is what's weird about it all.

Mildred, thank you! I do feel we are very lucky and very blessed. We have much to be thankful for. :)

Thank you, Sandy! Wow! 44 years--that's fantastic! Congratulations to you! I know what you mean about the age thing. Most days I feel the same now as I did when I was in my 20's. :-)

Thank you so much, Marydon! :-) Another blizzard for you! Oh no! Stay warm and safe. I hope it doesn't stick around very long.

Thank you, David! Yeah, that was a pretty unique class. We used one of the early Foxfire books as the textbook for that one. We each had to do a big project on Folklore Traditions that are passed down through generations. I did my project on making jams and jellies--passed down to me from my grandmothers and mother. HA! It was a fun class, but not really very useful in the "real" world. :D

Wonderful love story, Daisy! I don't see how you waited 5 years! When Jeep and I fell in love, he wanted to get married right then, but we waited 3 months. You have to remember, we were old and getting older fast, so we had to hurry!!!!

Hi Rebecca! There is much to be said for having a partner you can count on. :-)

I can't remember the date I met my hubby or the date of our first date. I just know it was the summer of 1977.
Congrats to you two for finding each other and the lasting relationship! We celebrated our 30th last month

Thanks, Jen, and congratulations to you too! :)

COngratulations to you and that wonderful (and lucky) guy, Daisy. We also celebrate the anniversary of our first date which is in mid-May. In many ways we feel it's more important to us than our actual wedding date 2 years later in mid-August. Amen to there be ups and downs in any relationship, but sticking together is what matters these days. Hope you celebrated in a special way...maybe watching Yellow Submarine?

We went out for a nice dinner, Beatrice. We didn't watch Yellow Submarine this time around, but we do have it on DVD and have watched it many times. :D

I'm guessing it was your trusty journals that reminded you of the date you met. Hooray for journaling! Hooray for 31 happy years!
