Basically, OCLC provides the cataloging for our books and for just about every other library book worldwide.
I took a picture of their main headquarters building.
Our meetings were held in a nearby building in their conference center. The conference was on Wednesday, but we went down on Tuesday afternoon and spent the night so that we would already be there early in the morning when things got started.
I liked my hotel room. I had it all to myself. It was nice and quiet and very comfortable. It was actually much bigger than I needed just for me overnight, but no complaints here!
It had a kitchen which I didn't use except to make myself a cup of tea.
The rest of my room was quite nice too.
My room was on the fourth floor, and this was the view out the window. Not a lot to see there really, except the parking lot, but it was a different view from my window at home. Every once in a while, it is nice to go someplace new and gain some new perspectives.
We went out for a nice dinner and then went to a store called Garden Ridge to do some shopping. Garden Ridge is a crafting and home decorating retail chain. I didn't really have anything I needed to shop for, so I just wandered around and took pictures of shiny, pretty, colorful things that caught my eye while my co-workers shopped.
I remember when Christmas trees used to be green, just green. Now you can have any color or size that you'd like to have.
I found a plethora of poinsettias. (No, not a plethora of pinatas!)
What color do you like? I think they had them all there!
These wreaths were colorful and shiny too.
Oooooh! Sparkly!
This aisle looked like it might be a good place for that Where's Waldo guy to hang out, but I didn't find him there.
I loved this aisle. Gingerbread men, elves, Santa, and snowmen--what's not to like?
I guess I'd call these minimalist trees!
This snowman and Santa were up high on a shelf.
Pink flamingos with Santa hats. :-D
These scarecrows and other Halloween and fall items were all marked half price, but I didn't buy any of them.
These pigs with wings and bright colored ducks made me smile. "When pigs fly!" Do you remember Flo from the show, Alice, used to say that?
These other wire and metal sculpture animals--giraffes and such were whimsical too.
I found a knight in shining armor there. Actually, I found several,
and in more than one color.
I also found these.
I'm not sure if they are supposed to be turkeys or peacocks, but when I saw them I immediately thought of this:
Finally, I saw several shelves of urns and vases and bottles and pots that pulled me right to them. I have absolutely no use that I can think of for any of these things, but they were very pretty, in a loud and showy sort of regal way. Made me wonder if King Midas had been there, touching everything.
These ones with the blue butterflies on the side made me think of my friend Mildred who likes butterflies.
I didn't take any pictures the day of the conference since the day was spent in meetings listening to speakers and looking at Power point and video presentations. They fed us a grand lunch, and I found the experience overall to be both informative and entertaining. Although it was nice to get away for a couple of days, it was also quite nice to come home again too, as it usually is when I've been away.

The room looks awesome I bet you have a good night sleep there and the scenary is supered.
The xmas trees, rocks! LOL the future has no green xmas trees LOL (I hope not ;p )
HA! Netster, I never thought about it that way before, but you are so right! I AM addicted to colors!
:-D Weren't those trees pretty? They were great even without any decorations on them because of all the colors. I wouldn't want to pick just one of them though. I'd want all of them!
"The future has no green Christmas trees." What a great line!
If you ever come to Ohio, Netster, we will go shopping for snowmen.
:-)
Hi Daisy,
Wow! Your 'room' looks like a suite to me! Nice! Glad you carried your camera to the shopping center. I enjoyed window shopping with you! Have a great weekend!
Hmmm, who could have imagined an orange Christmas tree??? The peacock video reminds me of the Dr. Seuss story with the bird who, with each berry she ate, got another fancy feather on her tail. I'm so glad you had a good time, and I hope the meetings were lively and interesting.
That is a nice array of colourful Christmas tree
Hi Daisy, Looks like you had a great conference... Beautiful hotel SUITE... WOW!!!!!
We used to have huge Garden Rich Pottery's when I lived in Texas. Haven't seen one in a long time... you captured lots of great and colorful pictures... Do you think Christmas is coming????? ha
Hugs,
Betsy
Dorothy, I don't usually have a camera with me to go shopping, but I just happened to have it in my purse. I should keep it there all the time, then I won't regret missing out on the chance for great photos. :)
Diana, yes! I remember that story. An orange Christmas tree was a new one for me. A purple one too! :-)
Haddock, that row of colorful trees was right near the front of the store and caught everyone's eye as they came in. I thought it was a great way to welcome people and pull them into the store. :-)
Betsy, I did have a good time. It seems a little early to think about Christmas for me yet, but that store definitely looked very Christmasy! I think they're ready there. :D
Fun post and lots of photos! Your room looks great. I've never stayed in one that looked that big with a full kitchen too..Wow. I enjoyed it all, and the christmas decorations too!
Hi Sandy. It was a really nice room. I was just there overnight and didn't need that kitchen or all that space, so I felt spoiled to be in such a nice place. :-)
Everything just seems so much bigger, so much.... more over there! Your room was large, the workplace was reference to ALL books worldwide, and the store just had such a varied selection, and so much choice! Amazing!
Hi, the room looks great, spacious and clean... Those trees are so beautiful, so colorful...
Loved the colors in the post!!
Have a great weekend:)
Lynne, it all seemed big to me too, but then, I'm used to things on a much smaller scale living in my small town. That's why it was a fun change of pace for me to get to go. That store did seem to have just about anything you could want as far as Christmas decorations go. It seemed more like a warehouse than a store to me. :-)
Hello Arti! Welcome to my blog and thank you for commenting here. The colors of those trees were so bright and vibrant. I couldn't help but smile when seeing them. They were just so cheerful. :D I hope you have a great weekend too!
Interesting store - mind you I reckon Dublin, Ireland's probably more fun
Hello David! Welcome to my blog. Thank you for visiting and commenting here. I've never been to Dublin, Ireland, but you could be right. How fun it is might depend on who I was there with to see it! I can have fun just about anywhere if I'm with the right people. HA! I hope you have a nice day. :-D
I remember that NBC peacock on TV from when I was little. Except on my TV, it was black and white!Personally, those orange and pink trees are a bit much for me but I would love to have one of those knights!
I thought the knights were really cool too, but I wouldn't have anywhere to put one if I had it. I'm not sure what one does with a knight in their home. HA! :D
Oh, it would have been hard for me to leave that store! So that is where my knight in shining armor is................I am always asking.."where's my knight in shining armor?" Have a great week. blessings,Kathleen
Kathleen, it was a fun place to browse around in. I never thought about going and buying a knight before! HA! Who knew it would be so easy to find one! ;)
a MEGA post!
I love WorldCat :-)
Kind of nice to get away for a bit, even nicer to get home ... with decorations!
Hi Daisy! I love to stay at hotels too. Different perspective, like you said. I especially like room service, but don't do that often. Wow, that Garden Ridge had quite an assortment. This year I'm not getting a live tree-and I DO love live green pines! Since Pat will only be here with me a few days before we go to Seattle for Christmas I decided to get a gaudy, fake tree. Yes,I've purchased a white tree with white lights. I decided if I'm going fake I'd have it be as opposite of a live tree as possible!
Speedy, I thought maybe WorldCat might be a "friend" of yours. HA! ;)
It was a nice little getaway for a day.
Cassie, I bet your white tree and lights will look pretty even if it is different from what you're used to. I hope you have a wonderful time in Seattle. :-)
I can safely say that's the first time I've had the pleasure of window shopping in Ohio lol, what an experience. I want a knight also but I'll have to save up and buy a castle first, great post.
I'm glad you liked the shopping trip, Ryan, and it didn't cost a cent! :D It does seem like the only place those knights would be at home would be in a castle. They certainly would be out of place in my house!
Woww... great hotel suite, Daisy!!
I really enjoy this post.. as Ryan said... i'm just like in wonderful window shopping in ohio with you...haha..
Thanks for the post.
hugs,
nensa
Nensa, I'm glad you joined us too! HA! There was much more there that I didn't take pictures of. It was quite a large store. :D
I need one of those knights in shining armor!!
They are pretty cool, aren't they, Chris? It would be fun to have around if only as a conversation starter. HA! :D
Holy moly if that isn't a Stuff Mart I don't know what is! Okay, so I was attracted to the colored trees and then the colored balls and dreaming of different combinations. I think that might be a bit telling eh? But certainly one could not use such a tree as their main tree, you would have to have it in its own room, a Dr. Seussian room I think.
HA HA HA! I love your name today, Lanny. I would LOVE to have a Dr. Seuss room. I wouldn't have thought I would like those brightly colored trees if someone had told me about them, but when I saw them, I thought they were so pretty! :D
Daisy,
Wow! I'm so glad you took your camera to the mall. The photos are splendid. I would love to take off to the mall, too. Sounds as though you had a great conference and your room sure was nice. Glad you shared this wonderful trip with us.
Hi Brenda! I'm glad you enjoyed the photos. That store was a lot of fun to visit, and the conference did go well, I think. Happy weekend to you! :D
