Homecoming Week

This was homecoming week at the local high school here, and my son has been very busy.  Each day this past week was dress up day of some sort.  School colors day, favorite sports team shirt day, 80's day and so on.  Thursday was career or job day.  The kids were supposed to dress up in clothes that represented a certain job.

My son decided to dress up as the high school principal.  As a result my redheaded son left for school looking like this!

I couldn't look at him without laughing. He didn't smile for the picture because he was trying to look more like the principal.  The principal loved it, and so did the other students.

He also spent every night this week helping his class build their homecoming float. They made a float that said "Rock the Patriots."  Our school mascot is a bear which I'm not sure you'll be able to tell from these pictures.  The opposing team's mascot from last night's game was a Patriot, of course.
That's a bear playing a guitar there if you can see it in this dark picture.

Here's the bear up a little closer. (Don't you love his blue star glasses?)

This is what happened to the Patriot who got "rocked."  That's a drum, by the way, continuing with the music theme.  HA!

This is on the back of the float--CLASS OF 2013.

My son and his gal in front of the float.

Last night was the game, and tonight was the homecoming dance.  They got dressed up for that too, of course.

They had a great time!

Looks like a week of fun. I'm not sure what homecoming is though.

Hi Betsy! I'll look forward to your pictures. I think homecoming was held a lot of places this weekend.

Dorothy, he got a kick out of dressing like the principal. The principal goes to our church and also plays in the church orchestra, so my son knows him pretty well. They had a lot of fun with it.

Lynne, homecoming is a fall celebration a lot of the schools here have. It's a week of fun activities that ends with a big football game. Quite often alumni from the high school return home for the game (thus the word homecoming.) The kids compete by grade all week long with dress up contests, float-building competitions, and other games. They also choose a homecoming queen and king and their court to reign over the homecoming festivities. In addition to the football game, there is usually a dance for the kids to attend.

They put a lot of thought and hard work into that float. I love it! Is the bear made of tissue paper? Great theme! Your son and his gal look splendid. I'm glad to see the girls choosing short dresses this year, so many more opportunities to wear it again for another occasion.

They did spend a lot of time on it. The bear and some of the other parts of the float are made of chicken wire with tissue paper pom poms tucked inside of them. I thought it was clever the way they made it. :D

Love the photo of your son as the principal - the dark hair really caught me off guard!
Your son and his girlfriend look lovely all dressed for Homecoming. What special times these are!
Enjoy your Sunday!

Good morning, Mildred. The dark hair on his head is a wig, and his girlfriend painted on the mustache and "beard" with eyeliner. HA! He did look surprisingly different! :D

I hope you have a lovely Sunday!

Hehehe... your son looked funny but still cute...
I love to see his false beard .... it must be his mom who have been dressed him up ...haha..

Love to see the pic of your son with his gal...I just wonder how old your son, Daisy? I also had a son who I think the same age as yours...

Thanks for the interesting post, Daisy!
Hope they enjoy wonderful time.

Hi Sandy! He made me laugh a lot with that get up too. I wish I had a picture of the principal to show you because he really looked a lot like him that day. :D
