1. Max, who rules our house, made me laugh this week as he often does. He pulled and tugged on these two pillows on the couch until he got them just where he wanted them. Then he climbed up to lay on top of them with his head resting on the arm of the couch. I think he wore himself out with the effort because he slept like that there for quite a while.
2. I don't know what these are called, but I liked these spiky looking flowers I saw at the park.
3. This is the flower bed where the spiky flower above was growing.
4. I like this flowerbed planted around a large rock.
5. This cactus is an unusual one to be seen growing outside in our area, and I was surprised to see it in the flower bed with the large rock above. It is on the far side of the rock, and you can't see it in the photo I took. It caught my eye because it seemed out of place. It was the only one like it in the flowerbed, and it almost seemed as if someone had just come along and planted it there randomly, that it hadn't been put there by the original landscaper.
6. This pale yellow lily with a few drops of the most recent rain clinging to it seemed to me to be extra delicate because it was growing next to a rough-hewn wooden fence. I liked the contrast between the two.
7. This photo and the next several count together as one vote as they are all of the same subject--the buzzards at the park. Sometimes I walk through the park early in the morning, and sometimes I walk in the early evening, and sometimes I do both. Both in the morning and in the evening, I see the buzzards roosting in the very tops of the tallest trees in the park. Sometimes there are as many as a hundred at a time. I counted about 60 in just one tree in one of these photos. There are three or four trees that seem to be their favorites where I can usually find them.
This one was off all by himself for some reason,
but usually I see them in large groups roosting together like this.
This photo isn't as clear as I would have liked, but I was glad I caught him spreading his wings.
8. My neighbor's sunflowers and tomatoes growing in her garden.
9. The makeshift "lost and found" at our city swimming pool.
another one. They were obviously together. I watched them for a while playing and jumping.
11. You have to watch your step walking on the bike/walking path through the park this time of year because it is covered with hickory nuts that are falling from the trees. They look like large green marbles and can make for slippery footing! The green is the outside hull. Inside is the hard tan or beige colored shell, and inside of that is the sweet nut meat. You can see some of the tan shells here left behind by some feasting squirrel.
12. Speaking of what is underfoot, I nearly stepped on this fellow who was sitting on the path. These cicadas are all through the trees right now making what seems like a constant buzzing, humming, singing noise. If you've never heard them, there is an interesting and amusing video about them here where you can listen to their sounds. Although some find them annoying, I have always found the sound they make to be a pleasant one. It's peaceful for me to listen to them. Here's a cropped, closer view of the photo above.
So, there you have it. These are glimpses into my world, just some things that caught my eye, that I found interesting or pleasing. If you have a particular favorite here that you'd like me to write a poem about, tell me which one (or ones) you like, and I'll write about whichever one gets the most votes.
Hope you all have a pleasant Sunday!

Good Morning, What wonderful photos from around your home! My favorite is Max - I can just see him working to get the pillows just right! Second would be the buzzards because I've got Halloween on my mind. Those spiky flowers are "cleome" or spider flowers. If you will watch them, over the next few weeks, those spikes will dry and have literally thousands of seeds in each spike. You could pull just one and sprinkle them in dirt at your home and they should come up next year. This is fun - I look forward to the poem on the winning photo. Hope you have a nice day.
I dont know which piture is my fav, but the pool lost and found would make the best poem subject. Yep, that's my vote :)
btw: I think your rabbit is the same rabbit I saw two weeks ago. That, or her identical twin!
hahahaaa
me again Daisy.....I just wanted to clarify that normally I would not suggest that you pull seeds from a public garden but those who are familiar with the spider plants know that there are SO many seeds that they cannot all bloom, and it does not hurt the plant at all to take one of the spikes.
Mildred, thank you for telling me what kind of flower that is and how to get seeds from it. I'll have to watch for the spikes to dry. I'm sure no one would mind if I do that. One vote for Max has been cast. :-)
Hi Speedy! One vote cast for the pool lost and found. :D
If that's the same bunny that you saw, then she must have done a lot of hopping in the last two weeks!! HA HA! They do tend to all look alike, don't they. :-)
Hi Daisy! All great photos, as you always post. You have an eye for beauty and the interesting! I love dogs, BUT, I'm with Speedcat....as far as photos for a poem, the pool fence is the best!! And a little side comment about cicadas. My family always called them locusts, which I have also always called them. I love their noise! To me, it just means summertime! And also it's kind of sad, because they don't start "singing" until at least July and really get loud in August....as if they're saying goodbye to summer! Ours have been quite "abundant" this year, too! :)
Hi Becky! Well, that's two for the pool fence. I've heard the cicadas called locusts also. They seem to be around here in great numbers this summer.
My vote is for buzzards, please! I do love watching them fly. Unfortunately my theory about them coming to the outdoor concerts to dance was disproved this evening. They forgot to come. :0/
Hi Diana! That's too bad you didn't see any tonight. They must have all still been here at the park! Right behind where you and your husband were sitting in the shelter house when you came to visit me and just a little to the south of there is where the trees are that they like to roost in. They aren't usually there much after the sun comes up though during the day. One vote for the buzzards! :D
Hi Daisy,
I think those all great pictures.. Those all great shot!!
But I love the buzzards roosting together on the tree...they looked amazing...
Truthfully, this is first time I saw a wonderful scene... so bizarre, unique and extraordinary ...
Thanks for the post.
Have a very happy Monday!!
xx nensa
Daisy you could probably write a poem that included all these things!
I like # 2 and # 3. These are Cleomes. I used to have these and they are very beautiful, so lacy and spidery looking.
Love these pictures, Daisy! Wonderful.
I gotta say, Max wins though. Poem about Max! Poem about Max! Poem about Max!
The Max picture is my pick! Such a cutie! I like the others as well - especially the buzzard pics - but since my Sophie (cocker spaniel) pulls a similar move with sofa pillows, I have a soft spot for Max pics. : )
We had a true cicada invasion back in '05 or '06 in VA. There were thousands & thousands of them. Apparently they're on a 17 year cycle & swarm like locusts. Everywhere you stepped was a blanket of crunchy cicadas. The sound didn't bother me but the sound of their carcasses being squished did. Blech.
I'm with Jen, I think you could write about all of them together. But since you requested my fav, I'm going with Max.
Buzzards!!! :) A lonely buzzard sparks my imagination, actually.
Nensa, until we moved where we live now, I had never seen more than two or three buzzards together at once, and they were always either flying over head or sitting on the ground. It is only here that I've seen them roost in the trees in such big groups. I guess that is why I am so fascinated by them too. :-)
Thank you, Jen! That would be quite a poem! HA! :D
Dorothy, I thought they were pretty too, lacy and delicate and frilly looking. :-)
Thank you, Betty! I get the feeling that you are casting your vote for Max. Am I right? HA! :D
Hi Tracey! Eeww! I wouldn't care to be stepping on crunchy cicadas either. That's another vote for Max. :-)
Hi Susie! That's four for Max now and he pulls out in the lead. :D
Hi Chris! Your vote puts the buzzards in second place.
I think I'll wait a day and see if anyone else chimes in with another vote. I may end up writing more than one poem inspired by these photos, but I'll start with whatever my readers choose for me. Thanks all for voting. Hope you're having a good Monday! :-)
I vote for lost and found!
I think Speedcat is on to something here, ever though he is a tad crazy. I also vote for pool lost n found.
Thank you,
Doc S.
HA HA HA! Speedy! Are you stuffing the ballot box??? You are only allowed to vote once!! :D
Don't worry, though. I may end up writing one for the pool lost and found too. I have a feeling I might be writing two or three poems from these photos. (I like to keep my readers happy.) ;)
Doctor Shoal!! What a surprise! I haven't seen you for quite a while. HA HA HA! :-D Very well then, I'll add another vote for the pool lost and found.
You make me laugh. ;)
Well...I have to vote for the lily....you know me and flowers!
I kind of like the idea of a poem that includes more than one picture.
Hi Carol! You know what is interesting, the two that I was leaning most toward writing about were the lily and the cicada before I decided to let my readers choose for me. HA! I couldn't have predicted the way the voting has gone at all! :D Happy Monday to you!
Hi Daisy, They are all good --but I think you could write a great poem about the cactus. Of course, Max is always a treat --and the buzzards are interesting.... Whatever you choose, I will enjoy it I'm sure.
Hugs,
Betsy
I vote for #1 Max. Those doleful eyes beg a poem! The last one (cicada) is icky. Those things always creeped me out.
Hi Betsy! Hi Casssie! One for the cactus and another one for Max. :-D Max is such a charmer. He's probably been out shaking paws and kissing babies just to try and win everyone's vote.
Put my vote in on the one that gets the most votes ... oh, ok! I know that isn't fair.
I love the clothes on the fence, then the bun-bun, then the buzzards!
You captured everything so beautifully, Daisy. Good eye, great subjects!
Have a beautiful summer day ~
TTFN ~ Marydon
Thank you, Marydon! :D I hope you are enjoying your day too.
Well, it looks to me like Max has won the most votes with the pool fence coming in second place.
I will see what I can come up with for both of those photos, and who knows, perhaps I'll write poems for some of the others too.
Thanks all for voting. This was fun to do! :-D
You took some amazing photos... the flowers are very pretty.
Hi Denise! Thank you! I hope your week is going well. :)
