I wrote about the City Orchestra that has recently formed in my little town a few days ago and showed pictures of their performance in the atrium at the hospital.
They had their second performance last night. It was originally scheduled to be held on the courthouse square in the gazebo there, but thunderstorms had been rolling through our area most of the afternoon, so the concert was moved to the ice rink instead so that it would be under cover in case more rain came through. The City Orchestra was to perform first and then the City Band.
This picture was taken before the concert began. Some of the musicians are still arriving and those in the audience are trickling in with their lawn chairs to set up in the rink to listen to the performance.
They are starting to warm up in this picture. That's my son with his bass standing there in the center of the picture.
They are still getting set up here. This gives you a better view of the number of performers in the orchestra.
The ice rink is filling up quickly with spectators. The gentleman here in the red shirt is in his 90's. He is the director of the City Band which is to play when the orchestra is finished. He's been the City Band Director here for as long as we have lived here plus many years before that, although I don't know for sure how many. We've lived here for almost 21 years now. He is much loved and well respected in our town.
The whole ice rink is filling up. Looks like the orchestra is going to be playing to a packed house tonight.
The music begins and everyone settles in to listen. The orchestra sounds great and is a big hit with the crowd.
My son is smiling at the crowd's reaction to their performance. It was a little dark in the ice rink so this picture didn't turn out very well, but I like it anyway because he's smiling.
He has noticed that I am in the crowd and that I'm taking pictures, so he flashes a smile my way...a smile for Mom.
Another couple of shots of the crowd as the music begins. The orchestra has their full attention.
After playing several songs, the orchestra finishes to a standing ovation. The crowd appreciated their hard work and enthusiastically showed how much they enjoyed the music.
Yes, I did take some videos of the performance, but I haven't uploaded them off the camera yet. I love my job at the library, but working full time hours sure cuts into my blogging time. HA! It takes quite a while to transfer the videos to the computer and then from the computer to Youtube before I can post them here, so I'll have to post them another day.
Needless to say, I really enjoyed the concert and am so pleased that they had a good turnout with the crowd. I'm glad they played well and that the audience showed their appreciation for their hard work too.
Lord, for music, for people working together to bring joy to others, and for this wonderful little town where I live, let me be truly grateful.

I LOVE these pictures! What a great response to the orchestra's hard work. The picture of your son smiling at you is just wonderful.
Love these hometown concerts. So glad it was well-attended.
Quit your job. Come live in Blogland.
An orchestra performance at an ice rink...Wonderful middle America!!
I like 2nd son's smile too. I think it's so important for the community to attend these events.
I think of you most everyday Miss Daisy. My adorable little brown eyed flowers you gave me the seed for have FiNaLly sprouted!! I planted the seeds TWO years ago and this is the first they've shown their faces. Cool!!
I love when your son was smilling at you in the crowded... You must be proud of him.
And I love those photos.
Glad to hear you have a great time in wathing your son's performance..
Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, Mildred. It was really nice to see such a big crowd there for the music. :)
Betty, it is very tempting to live in Blogland. I probably spend too much time there as it is! Might be harder to get the bills paid if I did that though. :D
Cassie, they use that ice rink for lots of things during the year when it isn't cold enough to use as an ice rink. They hold a charity auction there every year, potluck meals for large groups, large combined church services on special occasions, craft fairs, the annual Halloween party for children, and rollerblading/rollerskating events are all held there during the warmer days, among other things. They get a lot of use out of it which is good, I think.
I'm so glad to hear your flowers are blooming! Hurray! :D
Thank you, Nensa. I am proud of him and of the others in the orchestra too. It is an all volunteer group. No one is getting paid to be there, so it is impressive that they get together to practice and perform just as a service to the community, to provide entertainment for them. Hugs to you too! :D
Hi Daisy, I'm sure that was a wonderful summer concert.... I used to love to go to summer concerts in the park when my children were growing up... Haven't been to one in years...
Your son looked like he was enjoying himself... He's has a busy summer this year, hasn't it??? Soon--school will start...
How is the new job?
Hugs,
Betsy
Okay, I enjoyed the pictures, really I did, especially of your son smiling, but I'm sorry, I couldn't get my mind off of how they use a ice rink for other things. And other such thoughts like: So is it cold when you are in there? Or do they melt the ice and then drain it? If not, if the canvas flips up and their is ice under there would you slip and fall?
Sorry I was so distracted, we only have one ice rink around here and you don't hear of them using it for anything else.
Hi Betsy! Yes, my son does enjoy himself when he is playing his music for an audience, especially when it is well received. It is a lot of work to practice, but well worth it. My job is going very well, thank you. Hope you have a nice weekend! :D
Lanny, our ice rink is basically a big cement floor with a roof over it that is open around the sides. It's only cold in there if it is cold outside. It mostly only gets used as an ice rink in January and February. When the temperatures get and stay down low enough for ice to form, they fill it with water and let it freeze. Then it is an ice rink. When it gets warmer outside, the ice melts and it is no longer an ice rink. HA! HA! There's no canvas covering. The ice melts on its own, and then yes, I think there is a drain of some kind that lets the water out. Sorry to leave you so distracted. Hope you have a nice weekend! :D
That's great that so many people turned out to appreciate the music and a summer evening (in an ice rink of all places! - but it looks like it makes a good venue in the summer.) And happy anniversary!
Thank you, Ben! :-) They did have a great crowd. I was surprised at how many came.
I don't know how I missed this post. I guess I'm still way behind in my blog reading! Another great post and photos!
Thank you, Becky! :)
He is smiling! He is happy and that is fun to see. Your son is cool...
Sandy, for me, I think that is one of the best things about my son and his music. He really does enjoy it, and it makes him happy. He hasn't been pushed or forced to play. It is just something he wants to do.
I like everything about your town, Daisy! What a wonderful event to bring people together to enjoy the gifts of these talented people.
Thank you, Diana. It is a lovely place to live most of the time. :)
