Waving Goodbye, Saying Hello, and Smiling
I thought you might like to see this icicle from outside of one of my kitchen windows. It kind of looks like a little hand on the end of an arm reaching down, don't you think? (OK, so it may be missing a finger, but you see what I mean.)
I'd like to think of it as winter waving a final goodbye. I can't say I'm sad to see it go.

When I went out to visit my mother at the nursing home today, I could hear water running through the gutters from the snow melting on the roof. It was the sweet music of spring to my ears. We still have quite a bit of snow on the ground thanks to the Sunday night/most of the day Monday storm that went through this week, but the sun is shining today and the temperature is up to 35 degrees. Feels like a heat wave!

My older son will be coming home this weekend for his SPRING break. It doesn't seem quite like spring yet, but I'm looking for any sign of it that I can find. If those educated folks at his college are going to call his break next week, "SPRING break," well, then, I'm going to take them at their word!!
My son called the other day and told me to start making a list of things I need him to do while he's home. He said he would have some free time and could help me out with some chores around the house while he's here. You have got to know that his offer made me smile! Every time I see him lately, he seems more grown up.
He also had news from his latest indoor track meet. He cleared 12 feet six inches and just missed clearing 13 feet when pole vaulting this past weekend. He was excited, as this is his personal best so far. He is enjoying his classes and likes his professors and spoke of wanting to go on to get his masters degree once he is done with the undergraduate program he is in now. We had a nice chat, and he is doing well. Hearing his news made me smile too.

So today I'm trying my very best to wave goodbye to winter while eagerly waiting to say hello both to the return of SPRING weather and to my son for his SPRING break. I figure if I say the word, "SPRING," often enough and loudly enough, perhaps it will get here a little sooner. It won't be too soon for me. I've got my smile ready to welcome it. Jeepers, creepers! Bring on those little elves. It's time for spring, I say!!

Mother nature is a tease! I think we have one more cold blast before more melting. Friday morning will be in the 0 degree area.
Love the first photo. Looks a little like Mardy's hand :-)
Looks like the hand of some crazy water superhero! Watch out, Daisy! Maybe he is there to save a squirrel! ;)
(And now, I don't know what I am talking about either. :) I'm blaming it on Speedy.)
My word verification: noncess
hahaha ;)
Looks like a hand waving bye to me too! I always love your icicle photos Daisy.
I know you are looking forward to Spring and returning to the park for walks among the pretty flowers and trees.
Congrats to your son on his personal best and I know you will enjoy having him home for SPRING break!
Hi Daisy,
I like your icicle that looks like an amr and hand!
What a sweet and grown up son you have to offer to do chores!! Most only think of themselves, I think.
Have a great day!
That's one crazy icicle! I am waving back at it "Goodbye".
And I do believe I would still be laying on the floor if my son called and asked me to make him a list of chores to do while on spring break! wow!
Congrats on your son ... wonderful! You'll enjoy his being home again, also.
That is a WEIRD, WILD hand-icicle! We had then 5' long on our house but nothing spectacular. IF EVER ANY of my kids asked for a list of chores to help me, I agree with Jen! I'd pass out, FLAT pass out!!!!
We have another snow accumulating storm coming in tomorrow. We are still buried in snow from 2 weeks ago ... but can get in & out now. It is so pretty.
Hugs, Marydon
Hi Speedy! HA! It does look like Mardy's hand (paw?). :) I wouldn't be surprised but what we get several more cold blasts before it really becomes spring, but I'm hanging onto optimism and hoping for sooner rather than later. :D
Chris, maybe it is Mr.Freeze!!! HA! I like your word verification. Seems appropriate somehow. :D
Mildred, yes! I can't wait for the weather to get nice enough that I can get out and walk regularly again. The cabin fever is getting old. :)
Dorothy, Jen, and Marydon, I was quite surprised when he said I should write up a list of chores too. He actually is a very willing helper when ASKED to do something, but it is unusual for him to volunteer his help just out of the blue like that!
Yes I'm with you Daisy, looking forward to spring.
What a lovely thoughtful son you have.
Love the hand icicle! Have you seen a robin yet? I've heard rumors, but haven't actually seen one myself yet. Next week seems so early for SPRING break, but I'm with you. If they want to call it spring, we'll go with it. Feel free to send your son our way when he finishes your list. Somehow no one in our family can get motivated to clean what is technically our porch, but looks more like the aftermath of a disaster. :0/
Hi Lynne! When my son made that offer, I almost said, "Who are you and what have you done with my son?" HA! I decided not to make a joke of it though, because he really did sound sincere.
Diana, I have not seen a robin yet, nor have I heard anyone else here say they have seen one. They'd have to be pretty brave to come around yet, but I would welcome them if they did. Your porch sounds like our attic! HA! :D
Girl, I think we are all ready for spring.
Happy to hear about your son. How great for him and his pole vaulting news.
Thank you, Susie. He was pretty excited about it. He participates both in indoor track during the winter and outdoor track during the spring. He has been pole vaulting since junior high and really loves it. :)
Hi Daisy! Love the scarey icicle hand and arm!! Your house has the best icicles I've ever seen! Your son is such a sweetheart! You are obviously a wonderful mom!!
Hi Becky! This icicle was particularly strange. I don't know why it formed the way it did. I think it had partially melted and was dripping a lot and then somehow refroze in this weird shape. I thought it was rather odd. With regards to my son, thank you! He is a good kid. I'm looking forward to having him home. :)
Enjoyed reading about your son, what a guy!! And, you know what your beautiful photo reminds me of, that red against the snow, all the bird blogs I visit that have cardinals on a tree, and you see know and icicles. This photo is probably one of my favorites that you have posted because of the color!
Good news about your son's indoor track meet.
Thank you, Sandy. Yes, I guess I didn't think about it, but that red really does stand out against the snow. :-)
