Smiley Sunday---Mission Trip Plans

3 Nails 2 Boards 1 Mission

My younger son who is 14 (soon to be 15) years old, spent most of yesterday at a workshop where he learned how to put up drywall. He did that because a week from today, he will be traveling to a place called Pass Christian, Mississippi.

Pass Christian, Mississippi is marked with a pink balloon with the letter "A" on it on the map below. The location of our home in Ohio is marked with a red star.

He is going to Mississippi with his youth group from church on a mission trip there. They are going to an area that was hit by hurricane Katrina in 2005 where homes are still, after all this time, in need of repair from damage done by that storm. He and the others he is going with will be spending an entire week, their spring break time off from school, to volunteer their services to those in need there as part of the hurricane relief team.

He is wearing the team T-shirt that was provided to him and the others in his group. This morning in church, our minister said a prayer for their group and commissioned them for the trip. He told the group and our congregation how proud he was of them for being willing to give up their spring break to do this work.

I have to say, I am proud of him and the others in the youth team joining this group too. He has definitely given me a reason to smile today.

What a wonderful mission trip. What a great group to volunteer their time and effort for this cause.

Wow! That is really wonderful!

I think you did something right, MOM! :)

Terri, Mildred, and Chris: Thanks, all. :-)

I'm happy for my son that this opportunity is available to him. He went on a similar trip last year to Ringgold, Georgia and said then that he would go again if he had the chance. I am proud of him too that he is willing to offer help where it is needed and to make this choice in the way he spends his time.

I know you must be very proud of him Daisy. I know the folks in Pass Christian will be so happy to have his youth group.

Thank you, Susie. I am sure their efforts will be appreciated there, and it will be an excellent learning and growing experience for the youth group as well.

Good for him. It is nice to see young men willing to work hard.

Lanny, last time he went on a trip like this, he came home with blistered hands and sore muscles, but he was wearing a satisfied smile. I could tell he felt good about what they had accomplished.

Wow. How I wish all the youth in our center are given that opportunity. It is indeed a great and meaningful time to spend their break. May God bless them with good health, traveling mercies and provision for their needs. Indeed it not only makes you smile, but also for those whom they have helped.

Thank you, Jean. Yes, I think it would be beneficial to all youth to have an experience like this which encourages them to think of the needs of others. Sharing and caring makes the world a better place I think. I hope you have a great week! :D

What a great guy! Send along some work gloves to prevent blisters this time, so he'll just come home with the smile and some memories of helping others.

Daisy said...

Thank you, Lynne.

Diana, I think he had work gloves last time but still ended up with blisters somehow. But, yes, he will be taking work gloves with him again this time around.

Daisy, how proud of him you must be! What a cool, selfless thing to do and well ...I'm impressed and hope to hear more and more of this type of thing through the internet. We have enough bad news in the world! Yeah for your son.

Thank you, Sandy. He left early this morning with his youth group for the trip. They will be driving all day long to get there. I hope it will be a learning and growing experience for him and that he will be able to have some fun too along the way.
