I feel sorry for him out there. He looks so cold. I don't know of much to do for him though. He used to fly away whenever we went in and out of that door, but lately he has just been staying put. I guess he has decided that the cold is more of a threat to him than we are. I wrote a haiku poem about him.
Seeking Refuge
Under the awning--
a huddled bird seeks refuge
from winter's cold grasp.

I loved your poem! Poor cold little sparrow! You could buy one of those "pocket" nests - they are made of straw and almost like a mini birdhouse - birds will use them to take shelter.
is that a bird or or a bat? he does look so cold...
Hi there :) got to knwo you from Speedycat :)
When I saw the first picture, I said to myself, "Gee, I wonder why Daisy has a monkey at her house."
hee hee
I think that is a great haiku.
I wonder if you could make him more snuggley with a little roosting pocket? I know wrens use them but not sure about sparrows.
He is a smoochie little fellow.
Shelley and Lanny, thank you. I'm glad you like this poem. I have never heard of a pocket nest or roosting pocket. I'll have to check into that! Thanks! :-)
Hello Netster! Welcome. It's nice to meet you. :-) Thanks for visiting here and for taking the time to leave a comment. It is definitely a bird. I'm glad it is not a bat! I'm not very fond of bats. :D
Chris--HA! Well, you never know what you might find at my house. What?.......Don't you have any monkeys at YOUR house? hee hee!
Lovely Haiku. I feel so sorry for the wildlife in these temps. I always worry about the birds in our area, when the Santa Anas are blowing strong all over. I can't imagine how they can hold on through 70 miles an hour plus...
Hi Sandy! Thank you! I'm glad you liked this haiku. I wonder how the birds and animals survive in some of the weather we get too. I guess they adapt, but I'm glad I don't have to be outside in it all the time the way they do. Enjoy your day! :D
he looks pretty comfy there, nice place to sit and watch things. :) If you could find or build a little nest box for him and put it somewhere there it would help a lot (if you have a cat problem, not a wise idea though :/)
nice haiku :)
Hello Jennifer Rose! Welcome and thank you for visiting and commenting here. I may have to see about finding some sort of nest for him. I'm glad you liked the haiku. You have a pretty avatar by the way! :D
ME TOO !!!!!!!
The first picture looks like an accorn monkey. I love the one that rides the dog on the Taco Johns commercial.
COOL Haiku
Good morning, Speedy! :) I think a lot of folks are seeking refuge after this last blast of ice and snow and cold went through. Me too!
I guess he does look a bit like a monkey. I didn't realize it until Chris said that---ha ha! I'm not sure what a monkey would be doing perched on the post of my awning in the middle of winter in Ohio, but hey sometimes strange things happen on my blogs! HA! (Not as strange as what happens on your blog, though, Speedycat!) ;)
I hope you are staying warm in Minnesnowta.
Hang on! I take it back! That's no monkey! It's not a sparrow either!
It's OBVIOUSLY a rare species of CHICKEN. Probably a special delivery from Speedy.
I think you should name him Tyson.
(Read my comment to your last comment on my blog if you wonder why I said that... and laughed! :) HA!

Hey! I love your Haiku too! :) hee hee
HA HA HA! He does look a bit like a Tyson, Chris. You make me laugh. I don't think there's room for a chicken up there under my awning, though. Must be a new breed. A miniature chicken perhaps. Maybe he's not a chicken--maybe he's just a chicken nugget! HA HA!
OH! A chicken nugget! You better watch out! Speedy will be chasing him with a butterfly net before you know it! Anything for blog fodder! :)
And so sorry about adding the extra syllable to your perfect Haiku. I couldn't resist. :)
I often think how wonderful it would be to be a bird and just fly away where it's warm for the winter, without having to pack a bunch of stuff. But this little guy didn't make his travel plans I guess. Brrr.
Ladydi, I guess he must be one of the ones who doesn't fly south for the winter. I'm with you and wish I could just pick up and go somewhere warmer when it gets to be this time of year.
